Tour de Houston, now in its 18th year, and 12th with Apache Corporation as the presenting sponsor, will take place on Sunday, April 13, and feature a new route with three distance options ideal for families, casual riders and cyclists training for the upcoming MS 150.
This annual bike ride celebrates the beauty, history, diversity and vibrancy of Houston’s neighborhoods. Starting and finishing at Discovery Green and Avenida Plaza in front of the George R. Brown Convention Center, this year’s ride travels west through Downtown, Memorial Park, Tanglewood, Piney Point Village, Bunker Hill Village, and Briar Forest to Highway 6 before returning to Downtown.
The new route features three distances – a 10-mile Family Route perfectly suited for riders of all ages and ability levels, a 20-mile Intermediate Route that caters to experienced riders and fitness enthusiasts, and a 45-mile Training Ride which is ideal for riders preparing for the MS 150 in late April. The 45-mile route will begin at 8:00 a.m., the 20-mile route will start at 8:30 a.m. and the 10-mile route will take off at 9:00 a.m.
Also new this year, riders will have the opportunity to enjoy music and entertainment at rest stops to go along with bike racks, seating, refreshments, bike mechanics and medical support staff; a commemorative t-shirt; and an enhanced post-ride after party at Discovery Green which will feature food and drink options, music and an expo with numerous local cycling partners and bike clubs.
